Personally on a 1k or 'big' sports twin I consider a 520 conversion to be 'track only'. It will wear out much faster from the torque of the engine and any acceleration increase on the street will be negligible.
I don't know much about the gearing on that bike, but +2 on the rear of mine did make a difference.

goin down 1 in the front is like going 3 up in the back. the -1/+2 is very popular among the 600 breeds, as it makes the bike feel like it has more torque, of course it doesnt but it just applies what it has better. I know a couple people who did it to their 1k and didnt like it because it was too much. from what i have been told the most common is to just do -1 in the front, or if you dont want that go up 2 in the back like Early did. As far as the 520 goes there are alot of people who say dont do it to a 1k but others who do it and have had no problems. But like Early said the diff is probably negligible. I do however suggest that when you buy new sprockets do not buy vortex, they are not hardened aluminum and they wear twice as fast. If you go aluminum then make sure its hard annodized. Driven makes a great product

I got the sprocket yesterday to go -1 on the front. Can't wait! It's cheap and you can always go back to stock if you don't like it. 520 kits are expensive and a lot more work to install.
I agree with Trueblood, -1/+2 is probably too much for the street, unless you're into stunting. I'm not sure about longevity, I've heard of people getting 20k out of a 520 kit, and some only getting 3k.

What didn't you like about it? was it too much low end or just not enough top for you?

+1 rear now but i haven't pulled the front cover yet to take a look at the front sprocket. All i know is the chain is showing rust and it's binding up when i back out of my garage. I've adjusted the chain at least 3 times thinking i've got the *** end off center just a bit but it's straight. Hey Coop let me know what you think of the -1 front w stock rear. |

Stock should be 530. If I were you, I wouldn't ride with that chain. Take it to a shop and get another one just like it 520 or 530 whichever, then see how it runs. If you need a little more low-end then go +1 more on the rear, since it's worn out and you need to get a new one anyway. The front sprocket should be OK, they don't wear as fast.
Anybody have an air impact gun that wouldn't mind helping me change the sprocket? I bought the 30mm 1/2" socket. I've heard the nut was a ***** to get off by hand. I'm going to give it a try, but, just in case, anybody willing to help?
