Default Anyone else over heating?

It has been ungodly hot lately, and my F4 keeps getting hot. I won't go so far as to say overheating, because I let her cool down once it gets close to the red line. Is this common for my bike?

I'm not talking about letting it sit ideling. I am talking about rideing it around the neighborhood.

Thanks, Kevin.

Where I usually run like 170-173 at a 70mph run, I'm now running like a 190-198.

Thanks.

Any particular coolant from Advanced Auto Parts? Any specific additives I should avoid?

Go to Cycle Gear or Next_12. Engine Ice or Water Wetter Supercoolant will make a tremendous difference. I changed to Engine Ice last weekend and my bike is running about 15°F cooler on average. Max, I was hitting around 233°F in afternoon traffic but haven't gone over 223°F since changing to the Engine Ice. I think the two are pretty equal in cooling qualities, but I went with the Engine Ice because it has an antifreeze property too. Water Wetter is primarily water and thus still has a 32°F freezing point vs. Engine Ice's -27°F freezing point. Engine Ice's boiling point is 256°F vs. Water Wetter's 250°F.

Water Wetter can be added to antifreeze, but is said to lose some effectiveness if done that way. There is another antifreeze additive product called Royal Purple Purple Ice but I couldn't find a lot of technical data on it. I have heard good reviews though.

PSA: DO NOT use automotive coolant with silicates unless you want to kill your Honda's water pump seals. Either use Honda coolant + Redline's WaterWetter, or Engine Ice.

Engine Ice is not a true antifreeze but it does add anti-boiling properties, so if you're going to be leaving it in there for a while you may wanna do 15% Ethylene Glycol (30% if using factory 50/50 premix of EG/H2O in the blue bottle) + the Redline WaterWetter that is premixed with deionized water. That will give you some boiling protection and protect it down to most any temp we experience here in NE Florida.

Pure deionized water is the best at tranferring heat but you need Ethylene Glycol or Polypropylene Glycol to raise the coolant's boiling point+ inhibit corrosion from the motor's metals reacting to each other in the coolant under heat and pressure (and munching on aluminum). The purpose of the WaterWetter is to make the coolant/water act more like pure water and adds some additional corrosion protection.

Got the Engine Ice from Cycle Gear today, and it seems to have drastically reduced my temps. Thanks very much.

FWIW I meant to type 'Propylene Glycol' above instead of 'Polypropylene' - I musta had polymers on the brain! I ed

Glad you got it sorted regardless!
