Distracted Driving Course Puts Teens to the Test

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Jacksonville high school students are getting behind the wheel on a closed obstacle course to experience the dangers of distracted driving.

Car crashes are the number one killer of American teens and are a serious problem in Florida.

Of the top 50 cities in the country for teen fatality crashes, Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville rank 1, 2 and 3, respectively.

Distracted driving has been in the news locally this week; a man who was injured when a teen driver pinned him against a wood chipper has filed a lawsuit. CLICK HERE to read more.

Thursday, professional instructors are teaching the dangers of distracted driving first-hand.

Students are practicing driving on a closed obstacle course at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium under the guidance of instructors.

The students will attempt to eat, text, listen to loud music and handle rowdy p***engers, all while trying to drive.

The course is sponsored by Allstate.
