One Dead, Five Injured in Truck Crash
JACKSONVILLE, FL -- One person is dead after a single vehicle crash in Mandarin. Jacksonville Sheriff's Officers say six people were riding in a pick up truck on Bartram Park Boulevard near Old St. Augustine Road when it happened. According to witnesses the driver took a turn too fast and lost control of the truck. Investigators say the driver over-corrected and the vehicle flipped. Three people riding in the bed of the truck were thrown from the truck. One died at the scene. The five survivors were all taken to the hospital; one is in critical condition. Authorities suspect alcohol played a role in the crash. Charges are pending.

Alcohol a Factor in Mandarin Crash that Killed 16 Year Old
JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A 16-year-old girl is dead after a crash in Mandarin. Jacksonville Sheriff's Officers say six people were riding in a pick up truck on Bartram Park Boulevard near Old St. Augustine Road when it happened. According to witnesses the driver took a turn too fast and lost control of the truck. Investigators say the driver over-corrected and the vehicle flipped. Three people riding in the bed of the truck, as well as one from the cab, were thrown from the truck. One died at the scene. She's been identified as Miranda J. Zant. Police say the truck rolled right on top of her and killed her. Family members say Zant was going into her junior year at Lee High School. The five survivors were all taken to the hospital; one is in critical condition. The others have minor injuries. Authorities say Zant and the driver of the vehicle smelled of alcohol. Statements from p***engers, according to police, indicate the driver had been drinking prior to the crash. Police say they took a blood alcohol test of the driver at the scene and are waiting for the results. Police say charges are pending in the case. State law allows p***engers to ride in the bed of a truck as long as they are at least 18 years old. Those younger can ride, but must be restrained.
